My name is Jeremiah Ogonda Asaka. I am an Assistant Professor of Security Studies at Sam Houston State University.

While cognizant of the fact that there are multiple perspectives on security, I specifically study security using a human security conceptual framework. What that means is that I consider people – individual and/or community – to be the referent object of security (analysis).
I have primary research interest in the environment-security nexus. My current research is focused on understanding the security implications of climate change. I am also interested in understanding governance particularly natural resource governance and how it relates to security and peacebuilding.
As an interdisciplinary scholar, my research does not fit perfectly within one discipline, but rather sits at the intersection of, and speaks to, multiple fields of study including security studies, environmental studies, political science, international relations/global governance, global/international studies, area studies, gender studies, development studies, and human geography.
